Mario Ceretto, CPA

Founder and Partner

Mario is the founder of New Era CPAs, LLP, and has been helping clients in the cannabis industry across with litigation support, compliance, 280E strategy, and tax preparation for over six years. Mario has served as an expert witness in a medical marijuana defense case (People v. Jovan Jackson(2013)) and was appointed by the Court as the CPA for the first medical marijuana business to file Bankruptcy in federal court.  Mario has spoken at numerous cannabis and accounting events. Mario’s professional experience is representative of his entrepreneurial character; one not afraid to deviate from the stereotypical norms. After leading audit engagements for large public traded companies at PwC in Portland, Oregon, Mario founded an accounting practice in San Diego and has helped hundreds of clients in accounting, consulting and tax engagements. Mario graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with dual degrees in Business and Psychology. Mario holds a CPA certificate from the State of Oregon and State of California.

Joe Bailey, CPA


Joe’s expertise lies in individual taxation and 280E strategy/analysis. With Big 4 accounting firms such as PwC and Deloitte, Joe has worked with startup’s and Fortune 500 companies. Joe has a BS in Business Administration from California State University, and holds an active CPA certification in Oregon as well as California. While originally from Wyoming, Joe has called the West Coast home his entire life. Oregon is where the heart is, and he wants to help those who seek to bring legal marijuana into the mainstream. He is passionate about the cannabis industry, which is clear to anyone who meets him. Joe prides himself on being able to offer real life solutions to the day-to-day burden applied to cannabis related businesses.
Leslie is a Graduate from San Diego State University and Thomas Jefferson School of Law.  After becoming a licensed attorney in 2014, Leslie worked for various criminal law offices in San Diego where she gained experience in representing clients with felony and misdemeanor charges by handling court appearances, researching the relevant case law, and assisting with drafting motions and arguments for the defense team.  Leslie joined New Era CPAs in 2015 and has been assisting in developing the Firm’s Corporate Compliance division.  As New Era extends its footprint within the cannabis space, Leslie ensures the Firm is regularly informed of the changing laws in the medical and recreational markets in which clients are serviced in California, Oregon and Washington.  Leslie is the liaison between New Era and attorneys representing our clients in other states and is planning to become licensed in Washington and Oregon.

Jessica Albee

Bookkeeping and Administration

Jessica is a certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor and helps clients with bookkeeping, sales tax filings, and their internal process improvement. She is studying to become a Certified Professional Organizer, and works on New Era CPAs internal process improvement. Jessica graduated from San Diego University with a BS in Business Management.

As Events Director for New Era CPAs, Betsy is primarily responsible for organizing the quarterly Cannabis Finance Bootcamp seminars. In addition the the Bootcamps, she also arranges clinics, workshops, and networking mixers to showcase the New Era brand. Specializing in the coordination of events large and small, she is accomplished in organizing events all across the US. Aside from event coordination, Betsy manages the full spectrum of professional social networking accounts and also serves as in-house marketer and graphic designer.

Before joining the New Era CPAs team in 2016, she dabbled in wine sales, furthering her knowledge, appreciation, and consumption of wines both fine and less-than-fine. Even earlier, she was an integral member of the Quality Social bar team, managing the staff, curating the nightly entertainment, and serving as life coach, therapist, and party-instigator for her loyal staff and patrons.
